The mainstream use of heart rate variability (HRV) is to measure the activity of your nervous system. That’s right! By looking at your heart rhythm on a computer (or smart phone) you can see what your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system is doing and whether it is in balance.
That’s very interesting. I have two questions:
1. How does one measure their HRV?
2. What does being in “balance” imply ?
Thanks! Love your blog!
You can use SweetBeat to measure upir HRV. In general, HRVis measured in a multitude of ways:
1. “Time” based measurements such as standard deviation between beats
2. “Frequency” based measurements look at the frequency patterns of the beats
SweetBeat provides your HRV, a number between 0-100 that represents, if you will, the thickness of your brake pads to respond to daily stressors and reboung to a balanced state.
What does balance imply? Your nervous system controls your heart beat and has 2 branches. One branch is like an accelerator on a car and speeds the heart up (usually due to stress). The other branch is like the brakes on a car and slows the heart down (this is rest and repair of the body).
Balance implies that the accelerator and brakes of the nervous system are in a healthy see-saw activity and that not one or the other is dominant.
So glad you love the blog!
